That is an interesting piece on Syria for several reasons.

1. Typically one does not see Syria mentioned as an oil producer. How much do they produce?

2. US officials visited the middle east some two months or so ago and I suspect they were encouraging the participants to get their act together to increase prices as almost all oil producing nations were going bust along with the US domestic oil industry.

3. Recently the price of oil has gone up, suggesting that this is an out of date article, or one that was written but not published until some paper got some open space to fill.

Not good news to hear that Syria is having such acute problems. Let's hope the recent oil rally is bailing them out. Otherwise the middle east/balkan region gets another nation ready to explode.
