NW Speaking of scams, when we lived in Vegas we got burgled (neat meticulous burglars, took jewelry and a vcr, the vcr was hooked up to a trinitron and they unscrewed the cables, didn't cut them. Also the remote for the vcr was sitting next to the remote for the tv, they took the vcr remote and left the other remote there). We had french doors in front and you could hardly tell they were forced. We decided to get rid of the french doors and replace them with a 42 inch solid wood door with a single sidelight on the hinge side (so someone could not break the sidelight and reach in and turn the deadbolt). We called this person under doors in the phone book to get an estimate, he came out and said an estimate was 40 dollars and we said ok. The estimate was for over 7000 dollars; only later did we learn that this was how this person made a living, he just bid double what everyone else did, never got the job but did several estimates a day and hadn't built a door for years. Guess we were kind of slow and didn't know it was a scam until a contractor told us later. Just got back from taking my 14 year old in for a brace 'consultation', does anyone ever leave there w/o needing braces? The funny thing is that there are two orthodontic clinics in town in competition with each other yet they were within 50 dollars of each other...............hum. Oh well part of being a parent. I missed the braces experience with the 28 year old, guess braces weren't as popular then. Wonder if it's an establishment thing? Will be kind of nice not having to get up at 5 a.m. tomorrow to watch the mkt. I don't know what I'll do if/when Nasdaq starts trading at 2 a.m. PST, will be interesting. EES
