Mani - RE: AMD designs The K7 is getting good reviews, as a design. I beliveve that success in semiconductor manufacturing (making a decent profit) is determined by many variables. Unfortunately for AMD, they have failed to demonstrate success (making a decent profit). No one knows the future, but I believe AMD will have to do a lot more than come out with one good CPU design to be successful, IMHO. Abeit, good designs certainly don't hurt. As for Intel's design team(s), one could argue that maximizing design life is very cost effective. Haven't the K5, K6, and now K7 had / have / will have, 3 different cores in the same period when Intel has been selling the PPro core and it's variants? One could argue that the PPro is the most successful core of all time for CPU's, based on the above criteria (ability to make a sustained profit). If I were a designer of such a product, I don't believe I would be embarrassed. Also, how did Intel get to have a market cap 100 times that of AMD while they have been in business the same amount of time? Could it be something fundamental to the way Intel approaches it's business? Process Boy
