CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 1999--MathSoft,
Inc., (NASDAQ:MATH) today announced the expansion of its highly
successful StudyWorks!(R) software line for high school and college
students. StudyWorks Mathematics and StudyWorks Science--each among
the top-selling software products for students--deliver more content
and lessons to help students understand and master math and science
concepts. MathSoft is also introducing a new title to its line,
StudyWorks Mathematics Deluxe, which offers more subjects in more
depth than any other math package on the market. All three new
releases of StudyWorks will be broadly available in June through
retail stores and available starting May in the MathSoft Web Store at
mathsoft.com.
MathSoft has experienced a considerable expansion of its consumer
market position as StudyWorks has gained acceptance with students,
parents and educators. CompUSA recently underscored the success of
StudyWorks Mathematics and StudyWorks Science when it named them the
best-selling education products for junior high and high school
students during the 1998 back-to-school and holiday seasons.
StudyWorks Science is the best-selling title for students ages 12 and
up, according to market research firm PC Data, and StudyWorks
Mathematics consistently ranks within the top five math titles for the
same group.
"Several important trends in the PC industry have intersected to
make this the ideal time for MathSoft to expand its StudyWorks line,"
said Chris Randles, vice president of sales and marketing at MathSoft,
Inc. "Sales of sub-$1,000 PCs now dominate at retail outlets, enabling
more families than ever before to purchase systems for home use. The
expanding home market, coupled with users' inclination to view the PC
and Web as indispensable educational resources within the home, have
made the market ripe for StudyWorks. As a mark of StudyWorks' growing
success, it has already become a best-seller through retail stores."
StudyWorks' interactive learning environment is designed for use
by students with a wide range of interests and objectives. Its unique
three-step approach enables students to understand fundamental science
and math concepts through multimedia presentations and diagrams, learn
how to solve problems through guided exercises and reinforce these
concepts using hundreds of problems. Students can even participate in
virtual study groups with other pupils and educators online via the
Collaboratory(TM) at the MathSoft Web site and receive personalized
help from MathSoft experts online. Together, these features provide
the most comprehensive software programs available for exploring and
mastering math and science skills.
