Thank you, Tim - that was very helpful for understanding the short-term role of the Fed. I guess what I'm trying to understand better is long-term actions so short-term effect have to somehow be screened out.

As someone mentioned, recently there appears to have been a correlation between Fed draining of overnight accounts and falls in the market, but are we safe to assume this is either pure fluke or a psychological effect of some sort?
