I've labored long and hard for bread --
For honor and for riches --
But on my corns too long you've tred,
You fine haired son of b**ches.

Black Bart, the Po8
1877

Occasionally robbing stage coaches, this fine-looking old gentleman with a white moustache, gold-headed cane and dapper clothes finally was caught after leaving a blood-stained handkerchief, which bore the laundrymark, "F. O. X. 7", after a hold-up near Copperopolis, CA in 1883.He cut his hand working on the lock--there was never any bloodshed;"I never robbed a passenger or ill-treated a human being"; he just took the strongbox, removed that he wanted, left his poetry and vanished. After checking 91 laundries, detectives found their man.

His real name was Charles E. Bolton , born in Jefferson County,NY, and was convicted and sent to San Quentin for a long term, but was released about four years later for exceptional behavior.

After that, nothing is known of his life.

Here I lay me down to sleep
To wait the coming morrow,
Perhaps success, perhaps defeat
And everlasting sorrow.

Yet come what will, I'll try it once,
My condition can't be worse
And if there's money in that box
Tis munny in my purse.

Misunderstanding
Tom Earley
Welsh poet

They had the look of lovers
Who'd spent the night together.

Relunctantly they parted
To go their working ways.

She walked and turned to wave,
He went on unaware.

He walked and turned to wave,
she went on unaware.

Now each of them thinks
The other one loves less.
