You're absolutely right, the people who go for these "installment payment plan" type of deals never work out the numbers in any intelligent fashion to decide which method is profitable. No wonder these plans are are so popular. Sadly, like you said, the most affected by this are the ones who can least afford it.

Annette, a boring day indeed! I just read that INTC will launch
its 466 mhz chip on 4/27 and it will save box maker $100 hardware
components, I see $299 for a 333 mhz/4 GB/32 RAM/32x CD/56 k by the
year end from CPQ.

Yes, it is the American way of living, lease or rent everything, but
to ask someone to lease a PC is somewhat different than lease
