Well, in order for the hostile takeover to succeed, they have to have voting control of 50% +1 of all outstanding shares, correct? They have less than 3%. I am NOT of the opinion that they will EVER receive voting control if they keep their current offer of $17 intact. That said, I suspect it is easier to amend the offer (e.g. with a higher price) than it is to end it and then re-initiate it - if, in fact a hostile takeover is still the plan. Keeping this active continues to keep pressure on VLSI - a good thing, I think.

Another upside on this in my opinion is that we have an effective price floor of @$17 for two more weeks. (When is VLSI supposed to report earnings?) If disaster happens, this is good. If it doesn't and if the trading price continues to go up - as we hope, then its a relatively meaningless gesture from a share price perspective.

My takeaway: Good... Certainly better than a complete withdrawal.
