I wonder how long it will take MSFT to drag this character into court!

They might want to keep him far away from the court, since he could explain why AOL poses virtualy no threat the Microsoft platform. Must say, I'm not surprised to see Zawinski resign. AOL, as a company, seems antithetical to the sorts of ideals promoted by Zawinski and other open source advocates.

His resignation is great news for Microsoft, however, since it will make it far more difficult for mozilla.org to keep the interest of the open-source troops they'll need to finish what is an impressive effort so far. It comes at one of the most critical times for Netscape's new browser. Mozilla has created what looks like it could be a great browser, but getting a product from its current "almost done" stage to a shipping stage is very difficult. Paid Netscape employees have always contributed much of the open-source code in Mozilla. I suspect they'll have to contribute even more in the months ahead.

Teflon,

after reading through that post and some others linked to it I now hope MSFT doesn't dig too deep into this AOL/Netscape merger. Prior to this I thought MSFT should push as hard as possible to expose the potential competitive ability of this merged entity but after getting an insider's view into the disarray that is Netscape I'm no longer sure.
