The new integrated chip from Intel can hurt the retail upgrade market. The vendors will not include an AGP port, so only PCI solutions will work.

In some ways, that is good news for 3dfx. Voodoo2-based boards will be a good addition to these new systems for those who want to play some of the newer games. The V3 2000 comes in a PCI solution as well.

Brian Hook wrote a little blurb a while ago about who sells the most chipsets for video. ATi's Rage Pro (the current champ of motherboard integration for low cost PC's) will be hit hard. 3dfx's customers are almost all retail upgraders (except for Gateway Banshee) and represent the target market for companies like id. I have a feeling that id will rant and rave about 32-bit processing and the benefits of the TNT2 but code their games to work well on the V2's and V3's as well. All those nVidia chipsets on office machines will not be playing Quake3.
