The whole idea of PE is to deny the notion that there is anything like progress in evolution, Natural selection never implied that their was progress in evolution or a goal. An ameoba in pond scum is the product of as many years of evolution as is man. PE does not change this outlook, it only provides a explanation of why life does not fill up the planet with a stable community and why there are gaps in the fossil record. PE has been the whipping boy of those who argue that science does not agree about evolution or it's mechanisms. TP
