I read a newspaper article today regarding Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF). The paper showed a home in Nova Scotia that was quite impressive - 2850 sq ft bungalow. The home required 12 weeks to finish using just one of many ICF systems available today. Anyway, the paper related that the concrete industry across Canada is actively promoting this type of construction and that their target is for 15% of new home constructions to use this process within the next few years. Nothing in the article mentioned IHI, but it did quote the marketing manager of the Canadian Portland Cement Association. Also, pictures of the show home indicate that an electic heat system was installed. The article further relates that a showcase of homes is being designed and built across Canada.

The article left me with a few questions that maybe the group can help with. Is the ICF process the same as the IHI process or is it in direct competition with the IHI system? It seems that the IHI system may require less building time and, in turn, possibly less labour and construction cost. Does the IHI system necessitate the use of electric heat? This could be a detractor. What exactly do the IHI patents provide that the other ICF systems may not offer? I'm guessing that this is the real key here.

I appreciate any assistance anyone can provide.

Best of luck

VF
