Regarding Platinum user advance notice, I did notice I received my alert 20 minutes before Value America was on. (Although I was away from my desk and got back at 5, when I noticed the alert and went to the page.) I am not sure exactly when Value America was available first but I think around 5.

Anyway, my point is that this is the FIRST advance alert I have gotten since Marketwatch.com. Granted it was not much notice, but better than after the fact. I am not sure if I believe him, but I asked a rep. why they went away from advance notice like with Marketwatch.com (where it seems like I got an alert a day or two in advance) and he said it would be worthless, because that info would be posted by a Power Etrade (Platinum) user on a board like this, thus ruining the advantage for Platinum Users.

Don't get me wrong, I am in favor of sharing information. However, if Platinum Users begin to get advance notices again in the future, I am not sure how I will feel about other platinum users spreading that info on boards like this. After all, being platinum with Etrade means you trade 75 times a quarter, so obvious we (those of us platinum) ARE making Etrade money and quite a bit of it. (vs. someone like a friend of mine, who got the priceline.com IPO although he never traded once with Etrade)

Then again, maybe the above will never be an issue if the alerts continue to come at open of IOI. I suspect however that if it gets to the point where only people who IOI within a 10 minute or less window (as has already happened in some cases) Platinum users may rethink their "kind" notices they post about their alerts.

I guess it sounds like I take The Prince by Machiavelli a little bit too seriously, but I am of the opinion that in the market people should look out for themselves first and then others. Nothing cutthroat about that, just a good move if one wishes to maximize gains.

I realize of course non-Platinum users may argue with the above points, as of course they want any help they can get and I can understand that. However, I think if you consider it from the standpoint of a platinum etrade user, the logic seems reasonable.

Good luck to all!
