Maurice:

Did not bother to scan the previous 10K's but this one had a couple statements that give me some reason to hope that they are planning to get things up and running fast (my bolds):

To achieve rapid and sustained customer acceptance, the Globalstar System
has been designed to provide a high quality, worldwide service that combines the
best of existing cellular service with the technological advantages of the
Globalstar System to meet the needs of individual end users.

By planning for volume production and utilizing commercially available
off-the-shelf components where possible, Globalstar expects that its Globalstar

Time will tell.

When I read about all the problems with coverage in the USA in these discussions, I can't believe it's quite as comprehensive as shown on the map. It looks as though they've just filled in some areas on the map with a computer pixel spray gun!

That map is not very accurate for North America. For instance, there are many sections of British Columbia that DO have service that arent' shown on the map, as well as part of the northern coast of alaska. However, there are also places that are shown to have service that I don't think will--but then, this map is supposed to be a projection.
