SEATTLE (April 2, 1999 4:07 p.m. EST nandotimes.com) - Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, have pledged $1.5 million to help Kosovo refugees.

The pledge from the William H. Gates Foundation includes $500,000 each to three charities: the American Red Cross International Response Fund, CARE and the International Rescue Committee.

The American Red Cross is working with refugees arriving in Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina, providing immediate needs such as food, water, blankets, medicine and temporary shelters.
