From what I hear about ORCL, Lane, Larry and the rest of the Group, you are right on.

Too bad, the company has such great potential. In the back of my mind I have these visions of Gates buying the Company out from under Larry's nose, just to freak him out. One of these days while Larry is asleep at the helm during one of his yatch races maybe it will dawn on him that his company needs management, not publicity. We shall see.

FYI, the worst thing you could do is sell GNET and DCLK too soon. Hang on and enjoy the ride. It's the best roller coaster I've ever experience.

Michelle -
Actually Larry is a talented guy but his lieutenants (including Lane) are overrated
I tend to disagree. Larry is certainly talented but has been unfocused of years. Lane has brought enough discipline to keep the base business in line. He is a very strong operational manager. Larry, as far as I can tell, has almost no interest in operational process.

Oracle's real problem is that they have consistently misfired in their strategy to shift away from the DB business. And Larry has been a lead figure in siphoning off both talent and cash to fund tilting at windmills while the base business suffers.
