re:That's sticking it to Intel in my opinion!

You're forgetting that by having someone like AMD around, it pushes you to become more competitive (or "paranoid", if you like). I remember about a year or so ago, when sub $1000 really started taking off, an Intel exec was quoted as saying that if sub-$1k ever reached more than 50% of the retail market, it would definitely impact Intel's profit margin. Well, it has BUT intel's profit margins are going UP not DOWN! Why? Because in the past year, Intel has been very agressive with their process technology, introducing faster & faster MHz, marketing, etc. In other words, Intel has been "pushed" by several factors, AMD, Asia, anti-trust, etc. and as a result, they are now better off responding to any future challenges.

No wonder why AMD is under your skin! That's sticking it to Intel in my opinion!"

You have captured AMD's entire business plan. Certainly not to make a profit but simply to "stick it to Intel". Hope the AMD shareholders enjoy financing it.

Kevin - Re: " 5 million CPUs at a conservatively estimated monopoly ASP of $230, times a 23% profit margin equals...."

Let's see - AMD is selling those 5 million CPUS for about $77 instead for $230 - that leaves $780 MILLION left on the table !

No wonder AMD is going to report SIGNIFICANT YOU-KNOW-WHATS .

Re: "AMD is really sticking it to Intel !"

Let's quantify this.

5 million CPUs at a conservatively estimated monopoly ASP of $230, times a 23% profit margin equals....

$265 MILLION dollars!!!!

And that's a conservative number!!!!

No wonder why AMD is under your skin!

Given that Intel is massively profitable, and that AMD continues to lose money, isn't this a little like saying "I bloodied your fist with my face"?

Kevin,

Re: "Let's quantify this. 5 million CPUs ..."

Let me also remind you, Kevin ... AMD will be shipping a $20 with each
of those CPU's this quarter.

Make It So,
