More like he 'took advantage' of the Asian situation and it prompted the Asian contagion. The situation was ripe for the plucking.

Ron,

I have been thinking about that subject on and off. At the moment, I opine that no country, especially the smaller economies, can withstand an organized attack. This has nothing to do with the financial condition of the country under attack. If the all mighty USA economy could be threatened by LTCM with systemic failure, forcing the Feds to change monetary policies, what chance did Thailand had?

It has escaped headlines now but I understand LTCM is making so much money that they are paying back some of the parties who came in with bail out loans already. Isn't this the moral hazard Greenspan had talked about and the heart of our S&L disaster a decade ago?

If Soros and others are to attack Brazil tomorrow, my bet would not be on Brazil. Since these hedge funds contribute nothing to society, I view them purely as a shell game for the rich and greedy. Outlawing this practice would not hurt my feelings.

Regarding Soros' appearances on capitol hill, I just find it ironic that he is lecturing our "leaders" while he is out preying on the weak.
