[satellite to the home and terrestrial microwave transmission systems] hi shlomi, just received the orct prospectus for the recent offering: pretty much the same info covered as in the recent 20f... did notice tho that one rather significant clause has been added to the description of what ultracomm is up to: "...Under this agreement (with Ultracom) we are developing cable modem technology to enable digital transmission over coaxial cable utilizing the existing CATV infrastructure as well as satellite to the home and terrestrial microwave transmission systems. ..." sounds like that wireless expertise from orct's early days does indeed live on.. believe this is very good news, because broadband wireless shows great potential (wouldn't you say, SteveG? ;) )... a couple of first thoughts: would not be surprised if ultracom is working with conexant on some of this- as back a ways orct worked together with comstream/brooktree/rok/conexant on the cm701 digital satellite modem... and would not be surprised to hear about an ultracom ipo in the next couple of years... am sure orct was watching the audiocodes ipo... just looked at share value and the 23% of audc (4 million± shares) that dspg owns has now added over $100 million to their balance sheet... if things were to work out, orct might find themselves in a similar position (and orct management would make big $ as well).. and if the ipo just isn't meant to be, there is always the libit scenerio :) --- one other thing, in both the most recent 20f and the prospectus, orct has changed how they report revenues by geographic area, apparently there is (at least) one major customer whose identity they wish (probably need) to keep quiet: an explanation is given: "According to FAS 131 the following summary of revenues by geographic area does not include data that may disclose the identity of major cusomers of the company.." comparing the list to previous years: only four geographic areas are shown this time: "israel", "united states", "europe-country a", and "other countries"... previously all of europe was shown along with "s. america", "africa and certain asian countries" and the "far east and australia"... the most straightforward explanation would seem to be that something potentially significant might be up in at least one of the areas no longer listed... my guess : s. america and/or asia ... probably in that order... we know that s. america is ramping up... and china, on the other hand, is suspiciously quiet... the first bit of orct news from china was in May 97 - that orct hdsl was included as part of the China National Frame Relay Network Project (open ended contract)... and then last summer it was announced that they set up a Marketing and Sales Office in Beijing and were working with U.D.I. Limited, a member of the Eisenberg Group of Companies.... at the time it was explained that this was part of "Orckit's increasing effort to penetrate the Chinese telecommunications market, which is one of the largest in the world.." so was watching for some news this april when Israeli President Ezer Weizman toured china for a week with "a strong delegation composed of 40 business leaders" .. a flurry of announcements followed including deals for vocl, eci telecom, n-base but no word of orct in all this... thought it a bit odd that orct didn't seem to take part... after all they've been active in china for at least two years... even locating one of their four offices outside israel in Beijing... maybe they just haven't made any progress... any thoughts? til later s
