Results from Web cache (i.e. proxy cache) bake-off

by: jimjwright 26166 of 26176Rememeber the Novell ICS cache appliances announced at BrainShare with Dell and Compaq. The results of Novell ICS run on Dell machines compared against other cache products are posted at:

bakeoff.ircache.net

The cache leaders CacheFlow, Cisco, and Inktomi declined to
participate. IBM, and Network Appliance participated but
declined to release their results.

Note I used underscore character to try and format table.
When I tried to use spaces/tabs they were automatically stripped.

As a point of reference just a few short years ago Squid was
considered state of the art proxy caching.

Summary results:

Column 1 - product/vendor
Column 2 - Total price
Column 3 - Peak throughput or requests / second achieved
Column 4 - Mean response time in seconds
Column 5 - Cache Hit Ratio by percentage ( 55% is optimal based on test suite run in bake-off )
