I can well understand this whining coming from behind the Bamboo Curtain. After all its not hard to see their views regarding the sovereignty of an independent Taiwan are antithetical to supporting NATO's retaliation regarding Kosovar for the ethnically homicidal tendencies of the racist government led by Mr. Milosevic. On another subject, it's never been completely clear to me, but my take is that you claim some sort of American heritage, however you also claim the same for Canada. Are you one of those guys who turned tail and ran from your civic responsibilities back a few decades just because your personal beliefs were in conflict with the US government's position vis-a-vis South Vietnam back then? Just wondering where all that sense of outrage and frustration that I read in your rather incessant postings seems to derive from.

Just as the Chinese backed down over the Taiwan Straits, they would back down now. Then, they had the backing of Soviet Russia at the high point of its power. Now Russia cant pay its soldiers and will very likely be hurting for just putting the Black Sea Fleet into the field. No one is going to back themselves into a corner over this.
