"PIII will soon fall in the same category as the Cyrix
MII, which also has an underpowered FPU."

The pipelined FPU (actually the K6 FPU is faster than the Deschutes FPU but not pipelined) is Intels only claim to fame. So much so that they have "helped" design a plethora of benchmarks showing it off. Most of them mean little in the real world. With the K7, all those "Intel assisted benchmarks" are going to come back and haunt them.

I've run one of the "Katmai" apps (music encoding) that Intel touted at the release of the P3 and all I can say is that it's a J O K E. The app is just another shot at a proprietary format.
