Look I want to be objective, and I understand what the risks for Qcom are. They are competing in handsets. They are maintaining Technological lead in ASICs. They are finding new ways to exploit CDMA. However they do have the world standard issue tied up. CDMA,WCDMA,CDMA2000 whatever you call it, it will be the future of wireless. The Japenese,Koreans,Rusians,And the USA already have CDMA systems. The Europeans have said time and again that WCDMA is their 3G
preference. There is already an overlay for GSM that converts the RF interface to CDMA. It will start being used in the most overly populated and overcapacity laden areas. What do you think the Chinese will do? Maintain a phone standard that is incompatible with everyone else. There might be alot of questions about Qcom fiscal future. However GSM is dead. Put a fork in it. There still might be buildouts of GSM, but they are done with the knowledge that there is an upgrade to CDMA when it is needed. The chinese dont need Wideband yet, they just need phones. Two years ago people were saying that digital would not overtake Analog so fast. Motanic bet the farm on it. They were wrong. Think what you want about Qcom, but GSM,TDMA etc are all finished. That is why everyone is going Ga Ga over the q's stock. It might be premature, but in the long run you will make money with this company!
