The Barron's article talks about lack of demand " "How many guys in the middle of the Amazon want to call the office?" In
other words, is there really the perceived demand for satellite telephone service? "There are few places these days where the plain-vanilla cell phone doesn't work". This is the kind of thinking that is surfacing in light of Iridium. A Lehman analyst was supposedly privately quoted as saying "sat telephones are a joke." We are seeing some analyst and reporters now second guessing this whole arena.

Barron's is known for negative articles especially on tech companies. They have written neg articles on Loral before. I am not going to try to second guess the pundits right now because if I do, I may make the wrong decision. I am taking my ques from AirTouch/Vodaphone and other service providers and, yes, to some extent Bernie. Afterall, the Barron's is only second guessing isn't she? Is she in the business or is she another analyst or reporter? I know this is worthless info but a freind of mine was on plane last Tues and struck up a conversation with the guy next to him. He asked him what he did and he said he was involved with sat telecom. My friend asked him if he knew anything about G* and the guy looked at him like he had seen a ghost. He then said he knew a lot about it but did not work for the company. My friend asked what he thought of the stock and he said it is as screeming buy. Unfortunetely the plane landed and they couldn't continue. I know that is the kind of info you should completely ignore but I am not sure it should be ignored any more than the Barron's reporter.

I loved the ING report too. Very upbeat.

It may very well be that the overall demand for sat telephony is less than anyone thought including Bernie. But to assume there is NO demand is flat wrong. There is demand and I think it will increase as technology improves resulting in better bats, smaller handsets, better coverage, etc., and I think G* will clearly be the winner with cdma and low cost.

An observation re the G*/Loral future and "Bear - ons". Barrons serves a purpose for the bears. It's name reflects that. :-) The purpose is to try to spot a stock which can be driven down by dumping in order to make money on the down side and then on the up side (usually). Substance, fundamentals, and the real world are of zero interest. Market movement - trying to create movement - is. Nada mas. But this is just a long term observation and my probably wrong view. :-) Chaz

"Iridium equity is a zero. Wait until summer and buy the hell out of Globalstar at lower levels then today and you will make back your lost money. This was the wrong horse"

Been trying to figure my entry position on Loral (already have some shares) or G*. I have been thinking that Lor and G* would start to rise in a month or so in anticipattion of service beginning in the fall.

Iridium bankruptcy would only make it more competitive as the bloated cost structure is cut in bankruptcy.

One should never let one's enthusiasm and emotional commitment to a stock blind them to the realities of the market. You weren't here a year ago, and unfortunately, you probably won't be here a year from now to eat your words.
