Jing:

Almost everyone I know has heard of eBay, but maybe 10 percent of them actually use eBay.

True. eBay can't grow quickly forever, but neither can anyone else, including Yahoo.

I do believe eBay needs to start doing other things to bring in more buyers and more sellers, and perhaps need to become more of a portal that offers free information.

I'm a collector and have to disagree with you. More and MORE of my dealer friends are discovering EBAY and listing items. Last night I listed over 75 items myself, with EBAY collecting over $350 in
listing fees...not to mention the commissions at the end of the sale.
IMO investors will be surprised at the next earnings announcement as
EBAY beats estimates and the price goes up. Oh, I also checked out
AMZN auction and am going to stick with EBAY...as far as I am concerned my business is firmly established on EBAY and that's making me alot of extra money. These days I'd never consider renting space in an antique mall...the internet is the place to sell...and EBAY
is where I want to be.

Collector/dealer types go for EBAY, and anybody who wants to get started in doing this goes for EBAY. EBAY is like AOL - its the name the general public associates with buying & selling collectibles, old stuff they don't need, duplicates. I buy and sell, and I wouldn't waste my time trying to list or search for collectible type items on other services- they just won't have enough items in the categories.
