Lucent Technologies Leads in CDMA Implementation

Lucent Technologies is in the forefront of implementing cdmaOne™ – the
broadest band digital technology worldwide. As the market leader, Lucent is
building over 100 different CDMA networks around the world – including systems
in China, Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia – for 26 different customers.

In North America, Lucent leads all vendors with over a 60 percent market share
of all CDMA PCS networks and over a 50% share in Cellular.

Lucent is also leading in implementing IS-95 CDMA as the broadest band (and
only) digital technology to be deployed at multiple spectrums worldwide: 850
Mhz, 1.9 Ghz, 1.85 Ghz. By the end of 1997, over 10 million calls per day were
being processed over Lucent Technologies' CDMA systems.

Lucent Technologies also has a CDMA-based fixed wireless solutions. Lucent's
FLEXENT™ Wireless Local Loop platform is based on cdmaOne, enabling
carriers to offer any and all subscriber handsets, terminals and third-party value
added services designed to meet the cdmaOne standards. The AirLoop®
Wireless Local Loop, uses a proprietary CDMA, Direct Sequence Code Division
Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) technology that ensures clear voice connections
and interference resistance, as well as providing high signal security.

Lucent's 3G enhancements to its commercial IS-95 CDMA networks, available in
mid-1999, will double voice capacity and battery life, and provide data rates up to
144 kbps.

The Lucent Technologies IS-95 CDMA platform, which includes the world-class
5ESS-2000® AnyMedia™ Platform at the heart of the MSC, is open and
standards-compliant. This makes it possible to extend soft handoff universes to
provide a virtually unlimited network reach by making inter-MSC soft handoffs
possible through the connecting MSCs via ATM.

Lucent Technologies' network-centric approach to CDMA makes it more than an
"air-interface." It is an entire networking solution, allowing providers to offer a
menu of fixed and mobile wireless and wireline applications from a single
network.

As a key member of the CDMA Development Group (CDG), Lucent Technologies
leads the way in developing a consistent set of technical requirements for CDMA
to ensure complete interoperability among CDMA systems and digital cellular
phones, and a graceful migration to Third Generation (3G) wireless services.
