Frank,
Hi!!
RE: I do like some of the things I see from time to time but for the most part Barrons usually just ticks me off. There are so many analysts who recommend Compaq and yet I still do not see that stock going anywhere. Soon they will be reporting their quarterly earnings. I hope that any negative news from them will not adversely affect Dell but I guess it will.

Those that focus on CPQ as their investment should look no further than their management...I can recall a conversation Drew Swiss and I had at Metric last July with a large holder of DELL...He introduced himself to us and then proceeded to discuss the two leaders...He went into this erratic mixture of words ....what he perceived EP's message was last year when he spoke the same day as Michael...basically, EP instilled very little enthusiasm into the audience concerning his vision of the future of the PC business ...as a matter of fact this gentleman said EP left everyone confused...Now, Michael Dell....That was a different story...the complete opposite...calm and smooth...at this conjecture in the conversation I abruptly commented that these two contrasting styles were due to their confidence level....EP is stammering because he knows deep inside DELL is eating their lunch and their plan to keep DELL from conquering them is futile...Michael on the other hand knows where he is headed and this direction is the one where the PC business will come to him...Yes, he was elated to hear this concise description from someone he'd never met...The beauty of the shareholders meeting is meeting individuals who are just as wildly convinced as you are that DELL is virtually unstoppable...Those that buy CPQ over DELL don't know DELL...IMO...if this qt. proves what I think it will...the hand writing will be on the wall ....and, there will absolutely be no choice as to who is #1...The data server IMO is one huge key...the alliance with IBM for the cards and technology another....and, if the PC/Service swap with IBM materializes...CPQ is doomed!

Best, Kemble
