Kevin - <Intel's process technology look bette than it really is.>

I'd be careful with that statement. Intel has outstanding manufacturing performance from it's fabs. The baseline yields are quite frankly astounding on a per fab basis over time, and that's running at full capacity. Although it's hard to compare #'s due to yields being so secretive, I can assure you Intel does not hide glaring manufacturing deficiencies in the size of it's operation. If a fab's yield starts to trend down from the stratosphere, it had better get fixed and pronto. I believe the fabs compete amongst themselves for the yield title and the game is taken very seriously, because someone's bonus is probably going to be a lot bigger if they win.

However I will certainly grant that there is an enormous resource disparity between AMD and Intel. This provides Intel with margin and a certain amount of flexability. If you work at Intel, you hear the word "margin" a lot. This seems to be a core value that Intel puts extreme value on (building margin), regardless of what the application is (process, manufacturing, profit, etc.). I believe this practice precludes the necessity for Intel to have to swing for the fences on a regular basis just to stay in business.
