I totally agree that this is a VERY confusing war. . .just trying to figure out WHO is fighting WHO or WHY. . .is confusing. Lot's of different peoples in the various provinces of Yugoslavia. . .then there are the bordering nations and the conflicting peoples of those countries. As I understand it so far, . . . the whites are the slavics, which have a Christian heritage . . .are the ones performing the "ethnic cleansing" which was also performed on them by their enemies, which led to several previous wars. Russia was once a Christian nation. They have always sided with the Serbs in such conflicts. The Muslims are the 'olive' skinned non-slavic [or less than pure Slavic thru mixed-marraiges] are the "ethnic" Albanians [or Albanian ethnicity but NOT country of origin.] Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia and other Yugoslavian provinces are their country of origin going back literally thousands of years. . . but their religion is Muslim and they have olive skin tone. These are the refugees this time. . .but have been the ethnic cleansers of other wars. Even though they look Albanian and are of Albanian decent. . .Albania has no more interest in them than Italy does in accepting Italian Americans whose great-grandfathers migrated to America. There are Muslims in Bosnia, Croatia, Herzogovina, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Albania, etc. And there are slavics in these countries as well. The slavics say they were there first. the Muslims say they were. History seems to show that there were some unspecified natives there as the Albanians first settled there. The slavics came long after, but made a bigger splash. Hence my reference to American Indians. Now, if the religious thing is confusing, add to it the various POLITICAL factions and the smaller ETHNIC groups that settled in the various provinces of Yugoslavia. . .then add to that the nomadic clans that wander thru the area. . .and it begins to look like a forest fire full of melting pots. Now throw in an alliance of armies from a half dozen different countries. . .different ethnicities, religions and even sexes. . .A land war in Yugoslavia would require about 4 dozen different colored flags to sort out who's who. Then each soldier would need to carry a book with all the flags listed. And beside each flag would be A for ally, N for neutral, or F for foe and FIRE. Rande Is
