<I like your idea. Hooked up to a cable modem, the unit could receive digital Internet broadcasts to play at our convenience. Picture and sound quality could far exceed ordinary cable broadcasts. It could give us a far improved "pay for view". The quality would be better. We could watch it at our convenience. And, I could play it again the next day to see what I missed when I fell asleep.> And that's why Yahoo is buying Broadcast.com which offers to break the standard TV push technology and develop a whole new world of choice. It makes perfect sense for a VCR to be slightly more intelligent than simple catching streaming media off the standard TV signal. Even so, we will want to cache all streaming TV so we can eliminate commercials. It must be obvious that a signal starts and stops with each program shift. Any tape player can fast forward to the next track, why shouldn't a slightly intelligent VCR do the same? So, there you begin to see the money angle of typical TV shifting from an advertising base to pay per view, unless they can insert some sort of banner type advertising. I did see a project recently where you aim a beam from your remote on the screen and get information about something you see like the suit Jay Leno where's while doing a show. This pay per view thing is also an interesting matter of collecting money. We heard about micro debits, but so far they have not materialized. It makes sense to pay 3 cents to view an article from the Wall Street Journal, or .25 to watch Wizard of Oz, or whatever. Todays system has not been able to cope with payments. Make an acceptable method of paying and all these technologies become much more viable IMHO. Without payment, you must view advertising. Regards, Mark
