No doubt serious mistakes have been made. The most serious was in underestimating the savagery of Milosevic and the Serbians. The NATO attacks did not cause the genocide of Albanians, it only sped it up. All the more reason to punish the Serbs. We (NATO) cannot hope to gain anything from this entire grisly episode. We can however make the statement that if any group is willing to act totally outside the bounds of accepted civilized conduct, then they can expect to pay a price for it. While we may not be able to bring peace to the Balkans, we can make participation in the conflict a costly proposition.

There's an irony that never ceases to amaze me in this case. If you were to do DNA sampling of all of the combatants in Yugoslavia, the Croats, Muslims, Serbs, Kosovars, etc., etc., you would find that everyone involved comes from the same basic gene pool. They are all the same people divided by religion based pseudo-nationlism. What a waste.

I believe it was Thoreau who said, "No kingdom is so enamored of blood and violence as the kingdom of God".

April 3 — NATO strikes on Yugoslavia and
Kosovo intensified Saturday, but U.S. officials
still are ruling out the use of ground troops for
combat as NATO grows increasingly desperate
to find a way to stop the forced relocation of
ethnic Albanians.

Kill em all, let God sort them out.
