Tippet, the real "long term" holder is the public that holds all these S&P 500, they are the one that get those tax free dividends. The only way to get these is to be the one that did not sell the stock. Of course you have problems of valuation, since when I presented that "model" for justification of higher PE. I stated then that the true dividend rate was in the 3% to 5% range, and that part of the dividend which was tax free could be twice as valuable for those in an overall tax bracket of 50% (New York).
