I've wondered this same thing myself, how large can the market cap get? There is no upper limit, and it is only a matter of time before we see the first trillion-dollar market cap. MSFT might be the first, and who knows, AOL might be there eventually. The question, IMO, is whether a company can continue growing as a single entity and maintain its own coherence, without its sheer size making it too difficult to manage. Traditionally, if you look at companies like GE, they have become essentially holding companies, with lots of smaller units that operate almost as separate companies. With the internet and the efficiencies of modern communication and product deliveries, however, I think we will be able to have larger companies that can still be managed as coherent entities.
