Street, whether you agree or not with using your real name the driving factor in the decision is fear.

I understand your fear though, it's kind of a shame. Back in 95/96 most everyone used their real name here on SI. It was more like a family then. The postings were also more thought out, without the childish, he said, she said, rambing arguments and silly poems. But I guess things had to change with the buyout and tremendous popularity of SI.

By the way, your assumption regarding my knowledge of the net is dead wrong. And if you think it's smart when everyone uses a surname, go read the idiotic threads on Yahoo to see where SI is headed.

I read an article in the LA Times about how
bears and bulls have gotten ugly here on SI.
They highlighted one case where a guy who used
the latin word for "rain" was still tracked
down and sued by some angry CEO. A moniker
for your name is only the thinest of firewalls...
