If they short the stock and it goes down, they make money. Their principle is protected in the form of the convertible stock.

Now really does everyone believe the board does not know why Del left?? If anyone besides Del and Kathleen know it is the BOD's!!!

My guess is that this has been the Board's plan since the splitting of Inprise into two divisions. It seemed lame to me at the time that Del said he had come up with the idea over a vacation and then quickly implemented it.

This could have been positioning to prepare for dumping Del and maybe selling the company or at least part of it. If this is the case though, then it only makes sense if Del had a nice parachute. I thought the reports were that he loses all if he leaves without good reason. That would mean (since there was an abrupt resignation) he is out right now without the rest of us footing a high bill. Why would he stay for another few months if that were the case though? That means there is some final payoff to Del we haven't yet learned about.

No positive spin has been put on his and the CFO's resignations so it seems to me the likely posibillities are:

1. The Board pushed them out (maybe as a pre-requisite for another company purchasing some or all of Inprise.

2. Del and CFO left before the s**t hit the fan. If this is the case, why leave now? He'd probably make out better financially if he were to wait for the Board to fire him. Instead, he apparently walked away from the big compensation package. In any event, if there is a big financial diaster upcoming, everyone would know that it occurred under his stewardship anyways. It's not like everyone would say "hey they left on March 31 so the quarterly results that get reported in late April weren't their doing".

3. There was some criminal wrongdoings going on. I don't even like to contemplate this.

As a humurous aside, it seems funny that while this Inprise mystery is going on about a sudden resignation, the San Jose Sharks have their own mystery occurring with Andre Zyuzin suddenly "resigning", with a lot of speculation about the Russian Mafia being involved in that situation. At least the Sharks situation seems to make more sense that Inprise's. <g>

Based on the above post, I know you're excited that the big payoff is almost here but there may be more darkness to come, so cool your jets.

BTW, when Inprise announced in clear, concise language that they had completed the share buy-back you decided they really meant they would be buying back a million shares. Did you transcribe that press release in swahili and play it backwards or something? Just curious how you came to that conclusion.

If I were you, I would start aggressively averaging down. In fact, that's what anybody would do, if they were you. Forgive the others should they decide not to follow your lead.
