Here's the techweb Compaq news.....

More Storage Options From Compaq
MArtin J. Garvey

Compaq this week will unveil storage products and product enhancements under its Enterprise Network Storage Architecture that are designed to help businesses withstand disasters, including natural catastrophes.

Slated to ship this month are StorageWorks Data Replication Manager; switched fabric enhancements in the StorageWorks Enterprise Storage Array 12000 and RAID Array 8000 storage subsystems; and the R6000 uninterruptible power supply.

The data-replication manager will let customers replicate data online from one site to another within minutes or seconds in case of disaster. Integrated Fibre Channel switches from Brocade Communications Systems Inc. will make the 12000 and 8000 systems faster and give them unlimited capacity. The R6000, like any UPS system, will keep a data center running, even if electricity is knocked out.

"Compaq has a good, cost-effective solution for storage area networks of 10 kilometers or less," says David Hill, a senior analyst at the Aberdeen Group. "Since most SANs are in campus environments, it makes sense."

Brocade should be able to blow its horn a little building up for the IPO. Waiting for the rest of the storage biggies to show up!

Yikes.......Almost skipped by this part......

A Data Replication Manager and switch combination starts at $120,000. A packaged 400 GB RAID array and eight-port switch starts at $105,000.

The raid and switch are just a fraction of the cost, what's the rest of the money for? Is this really cheaper than EMCs offering?
