Can be fun, especially if dinner is something hearty, like steak or roast beef. If dinner is classic French fare, Chef Louis is going to tear out his hair.

I don't have strong opinions about everything, but I do have strong opinions about pleasure. Which is personal, so it's just my opinion. Nevertheless, it never hurts to suggest to other humans that there are certain aspects to human physiology that can affect pleasure, and are somewhat universal.

Such as, vinegar in the salad dressing makes the wine taste funny, and artichokes make the wine taste sweet.

Such as, scotch has such a strong flavor that you won't taste anything but scotch and you probably won't enjoy the nice dinner as much as if you wait until after dinner to drink it.

Such as, certain wines would be wasted on wine neophytes, accordingly, wine neophytes should drink "starter" wines, but that doesn't mean bad wine. Life is too short to drink bad wine.

And if you drink bad hard liquor, life will be even shorter.
