West Virginia, to a trial lawyer's convention, trying to network. Louisiana, for Easter break, to visit the family.

Negotiating for, putting a contract on, inspecting, and getting out of said contract, on the house of my dreams. That was a trip. The current owner bought it in 1994, closed in a couple of porches and made them into kitchen and dining room, without having permits from the County, nor County inspection. The home inspector determined that the kitchen wasn't up to Code - the cathedral ceiling didn't have a truss, for example. The septic tank was four feet, max, from the kitchen footings, and ten is required. We tried to get the lady to agree to pull permits and have the County inspect and fix everything that violated the Building Code, but she refused. If we had bought it, we would have been responsible for curing the violations. So, we passed. Too bad, it was a nice house.
