Pravin,
A couple of thoughts...still looks bleak for NSM.
AMDs sweet spot is now 400 MHZ... PR366 M-IIs won't help.
AMD is already producing and delivering K6-2-475s...Intel will counter with Celeron 466s on April 26th. AMD still holds a 17MHz edge there.
Celeron vs K6-2 being the mid-low end. Again NSM is no where in sight at PR366. I do expect a PR433 in a couple months.
Despite the K6-III, Intel still holds most all of the high ground.
It's been hard to get to 450 on the K6-III, but its coming along. Compaq has announced a 450 machine. Certainly not enough raise AMDs ASPs in Q1. There is NO K6-II-475 yet. AMD is not out yet but everything is hinging on the K7.
NSM, has tried too many avenues and found mostly dead end streets or is running out of time. They have been too busy trying to integrate things on chips and are now way behind in the MHZ race.
Best hope for them now is to increase margins on the cost side because
they sure aren't going to increase ASPs.

Pravin - Re: " If Gobi ships next quarter, it could put even more pressure on AMD"

That could be - but are you saying Q399, which is now "next" quarter ?

Re: " if Whitney uses the Portola core, many consumer oriented graphics chip companies will be going the way of the Dodo. "

Very good observation.

The astute graphics chip/board manufacturers are rapidly partnering with the chip set manufacturers - and there are only 3 or 4 of these - Via, SIS, Acer/ALI and Intel.

The big shakeout will begin later this month.

Paul

Pravin, can you explain your comment re ATI? I presume you mean ATI Technologies don't you. Sort of interested as ATI is my biggest holding. There is a run up right now to the earnings report due on April 8.
