Mike: Hey, with it at last. :-)

No way could I come close to the cogent analysis and detailed run down you just did.

Being proud of you is an understatement. :-)

Of course, with our long term relationship I have to comment.

As you would expect, that the Q can not match the grey gorillas is - how shall I put it - a mote in the eye of a clear thinker.

Let's face is squarely. No way do MSFT or the other greybeards come even close to the Q's control of an exploding area.

Tried to stay away from that sort of comment to keep the peace on this thread - but that has to be said.

Even my long term grey gorilla Cisco suffers in comparison.

And Intel ain't no gorilla, nohow no longer if ever.

Therefore my suggestion is that the Q is the newbie in the gorilla fields and Cisco is its grandfather or grey eminence. No other company comes close.

And apologies for mentioning MSFT. As you know I consider Sun Micro the future and Microsoft the past. Citrix a side bet. All because fat server / thin client is the real world now.

Cheers.

Thanks.

And respect.

Chaz too (as I am known here) :-)

<<P. S. If you haven't gotten the idea, I will place a market order tonight that will add Qualcomm to my portfolio tomorrow.>>

Do you mean that you don't own yet or are adding more? I'm trying to decide whether to buy more at this price myself.

I will place a market order tonight that will add Qualcomm to my portfolio tomorrow.

You will have to get in line behind me, Mike, I bought a 8.5% Portfolio position last week that I will increase to a 50% position tomorrow!

What can we say, Mike, fantastic post. As you know, I am the "Raging Bull" right now on Q. A few comments.

1: I do not see any thing on the horizon to stop Q from being the world standard. I think you are saying the same, only being more cautious about it.

2: My son-in-law. who works at Q, was here for the day. He tells me that the sell off of the infrastructure division is really a "postal" situation at the company. The people getting sold to Ericson are losing their stock options in Qualcomm, plus they all have been in competition with Ericson. It is a very ugly scene. The article posted today from the San Diego newspaper does not tell the half of it. I was involved with one of these scenes when Hunt bought Wesson in the 60's. It ain't fun. I don't believe it can queer the deal, however.

3: The thin margins are a flag. I have said on this board that the ability of the company to make the money, that its position deserves, has yet to be proven.

HOWEVER

Look at what the business should become, now that the fight is won. It is, to me, the best opportunity I will probably ever see to buy in on a Gorilla at the start.

Hi Mike,
congratulations on a very well written article. I found it to be both informative easy to read.
My name is Alan by the way, this is my first posting on this thread. I am a RMBS devotee, but RMBS will be in limbo for a while until INTEL sorts some of the technical issues. In the meantime I am looking for a new investment and carrier of my hopes. Q certainly looks to be an interesting candidate. Previous to reading this thread, I was waiting (read hoping) last week for a momentary pull back, which did not happen.
I will be in this week for sure

Alan

Mike,

Your QCOM retrospective and analysis was well worth waiting for. Thanks for reading and distilling those 1000's of other posts, and then putting in your insights.

I took the QCOM plunge again this AM, to delightful results by the PM.

Like a few others here, I needed to take one horse off the track to make room for the new one...Dell was led off to the pasture...for now.
