jim: The article said "The February 1999 figure was actually higher than the average for the previous three or six months".

You commented "Remember the channels were severely stuffed last year".

No, I don't remember that. The channels were "stuffed" according to your definition, in late 1997, and were cleared by 2Q 1998.

I don't know why the article is as vague as "the previous three or six months" but neither figure is co-terminus with your "last year".

Since the inventory in the previous three to six months was down to three weeks, the February, 1999 figure need only have been 3 or 4 days more, as it was, to have been higher. The extra few days is consistent with the need to ensure that there are no inventory shortages in the heavy 4Q. In fact, the article points out that there were shortages in some of the products you said were stuffed into the channel.

Victor,

Do you have a reading comprehension problem?

"Resellers reported slightly less balance in their inventories of Compaq desktops in February 1999 vs. February 1998, according to the CRN reseller hardware poll. Nineteen percent of resellers reported shortages of desktops, while another 12 percent reported excess supplies. Both figures were slightly higher than those seen in February 1998."

Not much difference between this year and last year in terms of channel inventory.
