I'm not here to trumpet the benefits of ODBMS, but just briefly, I have found that it is wonderful for processing financial timeseries data. It really is one or two orders of magnitude faster than an RDBMS (or at least, than SQL Server) for that sort of thing (No I havent benchmarked it against Oracle, which I agree would perform better than SQL Server). I would be interested to get your thoughts on the iMall press release, because iMall claimed productivity & performance benefits which would line up with my experience.

Having said that, you do have a good point about the ODBMS companies having small budgets to fund their engineering. That doesn't help. Frankly I think their marketing and developer relations haven't been what they should be either.

If you want to pursue the topic further, I suggest you drop in on the ODIS thread. Your first-hand experience would be appreciated by some (!) of the participants.
