IndioBlues, I can give you some inside industry "scuttlebutt" I overheard. At a meeting last Tuesday I heard that Apache is interested in part or both parts of the Altura Energy Joint Venture in West Texas.

That is a Shell/Amoco JV in the western portions of Texas. I've heard that Shell wants out- Amoco, they are basically on "autopilot" around North America right now pending the merger. My guess is that BP has not looked at its potential west Texas position yet.

Properly handled the oil fields in west Texas still have pretty good potential. And it's basically an unexplored gas province. I put some credence in this rumor. ....
