Hi Carl, Article, Intel, SIIC to Promote Internet, E-Commerce in Shanghai..

April 5, 1999 (HONG KONG) -- A unit of Intel Corp. and Shanghai Information Industrial Co. (SIIC) signed an agreement calling for cooperation in developing Internet and electronic-commerce applications among government entities in Shanghai.

The unit of the microprocessor giant is Intel Architecture Development Co., Ltd.

The objective is to encourage cooperation between Intel and SIIC to create solutions and to develop the Internet market in eastern China.

For example, online projects of the government and state-owned enterprises will deliver Internet solutions based on Intel Architecture as well as Intel's networking expertise.

Also, the partners will jointly develop and promote e-commerce projects in Internet stock trading as well as travel and ticketing Web sites.

They plan to provide solutions to small and midsize businesses by combining Virtual Private Networking (VPN) services and hosting of competitive Internet-based solutions. Online education will be included in the plan.
