Kuraya's Viagra Sales Reach 150 Mln Yen in 1st Week Tokyo, April 5 (Bloomberg) -- Kuraya Corp., Japan's second-largest drug wholesaler, said it sold 150 million yen ($1.24 million) of Pfizer Inc.'s Viagra impotence drug in the first week after the drug became available in Japan. Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Inc., Pfizer's Japanese unit, declined to disclose Viagra's total sales for the first week. Kuraya is one of a handful of drug wholesalers which sells Viagra in Japan. ''It's unlikely that Viagra sales will maintain the first week's pace,'' said Shuichi Watanabe, Kuraya's sales manager. New drugs usually enjoy strong sales right after making their debut as medical institutions hurry to fill their shelves. Viagra generated $788 million in sales last year after being introduced last April in the U.S. and later in Europe and elsewhere. Shares in Kuraya rose 4.1 percent to 1,748, the highest closing price since October 1996. Some 767,400 shares traded, about 5 times the daily average for the past three months.
