Frank, I agree, and a large part of the problem is that

To install high-speed service, it takes sophisticated technicians who blend basic phone and cable knowledge and dexterity with computers.

I wonder if someone can come up with a plug and play interface device that would facilitate installation? I don't know what is involved in installing interet cable service, and so I don't know how feasible this would be.

They are outsourcing. My ATHM install had 2 guys, a
TCI employee and a SW guy who works for a computer
services firm - this firm was hired nationwide by TCI,
specifically to configure customer software during installs.
