(Nasdaq: VLNC - news), an R&D company developing advanced, rechargeable, lithium polymer battery technology for commercialization, has appointed Jay L. King as vice president and chief financial officer effective April 5. Mr. King, 52, previously served as CFO and was a member of the board of Casinovations, a high-tech developer and manufacturer of electronic based and software driven gaming devices and products, from 1995 to the present. At Casinovations, he was involved in the successful launch of an automatic card shuffling device using random number selection software, which received international recognition, and an accounting and coin collection process for casino customers designed to improve customer productivity, security and profitability. Mr. King has held key management positions at a number of engineering and technology-based companies. He spent more than 10 years at Bechtel in San Francisco, serving as controller of the company's information services telecommunications division before joining PG&E as CFO of its Encon strategic business unit. In addition, he held senior positions at I.C. Refreshment Company and Ernst & Whinney. Immediately prior to joining Casinovations, Mr. King was CFO and controller of Sigma Game Inc., a high-tech manufacturer of gaming machines. Mr. King holds both a bachelor's degree in accounting and an M.B.A. from the University of Utah and is a certified public accountant in the state of California.
