Top Layer Networks, pioneer of the emerging 7 Layer switching market
for Application Control(TM), today announced the appointment of
industry veterans Bruce J. Lynskey as Vice President of Marketing and
Business Development and Charlie Kraus as Director of Product
Marketing. The two executives have built and sustained market
leadership for some of the networking industry's most successful
companies, and will drive the Company's forthcoming introduction of the
first Application Control network devices that will enable installed
enterprise networks to support application prioritization, admission
control and security, services accounting and traffic monitoring.

Top Layer Networks President and CEO Bruce Cohen commented: "Bruce
Lynskey and Charlie Kraus have a keen understanding of Business Driven
Networks(TM) and the urgent need to re-shape the intelligence,
performance and future-readiness of today's enterprise networks. Their
experience, vision and talent will be pivotal in establishing Top Layer
Networks as a leader in the emerging market for application aware and
Business Driven Networks." Cohen co-founded Chipcom, now part of 3Com
(NASDAQ:COMS).

Analysts view 7 Layer switching as a distinctly high-growth sector of
the enterprise networking market, because this new class of switches
resolves information access and network degradation problems that
currently constrain enterprises, while enabling installed networks to
support emerging applications (Voice Over IP, real-time multi-media,
etc.) that would otherwise incapacitate them. Michael Howard, Principal
Analyst of Infonetics Research, observed: "Today's overly complex Layer
3 and Layer 4 switches lack the intelligence to meet the increasingly
urgent needs of the information-driven enterprise. The performance of
business-critical applications can be greatly improved by intelligent 7
Layer switches with automatic, policy-driven security and Application
Control."

Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Bruce Lynskey
joined Top Layer Networks from Kaon Interactive where, as Vice
President of Business Development. Lynskey previously founded
Wellfleet/Bay Networks' Industry Marketing Operation and served as its
Director, and subsequently served as Director of Asia Pacific Marketing
Operations, based in Asia. He holds a B.A. in math from Bowdoin
College, an M.S. in applied math and an M.S. in electrical engineering
from Georgia Tech, and an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University. In
addition to successfully developing and directing strategic visibility
and market expansion programs for technology companies for more than 14
years, Lynskey also served in 1984 as a White House Intern in the
Executive Office of the President of the United States.

"Top Layer Networks' forthcoming 7 Layer switches will be the lynchpin
between today's installed networks, the geometrically growing user
base, and the new realm of Application Control in the network," Lynskey
commented. "I am delighted to be on the team that will deliver the
first network devices with the intelligence to optimize the
performance, scalability and security of today's and tomorrow's
business-critical applications."

Director of Product Marketing Charlie Kraus joins Top Layer Networks
from 3Com, where he conceived and directed many of 3Com's most
strategic Layer 3 switching initiatives, including the definition of
its next generation Ethernet switching products. His extensive prior
experience with Bay Networks (formerly Wellfleet Communications)
encompasses strategic sales and product management positions, including
his role as European Product Manager, responsible for channel partner
recruitment, sales and program, and the definition of all
European-specific product features. Kraus was previously Vice President
of GCS-USA, an international leader in security software, where he
defined and directed the development of products that contributed $40
million to the multi-national's bottom line within months of first
customer shipment. He was previously a product manager with NEC
Electronics.

Kraus summarized Top Layer Networks' market opportunity, noting:
"Crucial transactions are increasingly forced to contest for LAN/WAN
bandwidth against the rising flood of distraction applications, "push"
services and less time-sensitive traffic. By delivering the industry's
only solution that differentiates among applications and key
transactions such as eCommerce buyers versus browsers, Top Layer
Networks has a clear advantage in this multi-billion dollar market
sector. With customers, partner and OEMs actively seeking Application
Control, I look forward to helping Top Layer Networks thoroughly
leverage its unique growth market opportunity." About Top Layer
Networks:

Top Layer Networks makes LAN/WAN networking switches used to build
Business Driven Networks(TM). Using information from all seven layers
of the OSI model, Top Layer products support business application
prioritization, traffic admissions control, application level
monitoring and service accounting - resolving the challenge of
supporting today's dynamic application environment. Top Layer Networks'
Business Driven Network Architecture and its AppSwitch family represent
a new class of switch solution, and are the first to ensure that
business-critical and delay-sensitive traffic receive the best possible
processing. Additional information is available at: www.TopLayer.com.
