free will .. What difference does it make
There is a philosophy of nilism which cannot be disproved. In it's simplest form it states You, this computer, the world, and the rest of the universe are just figments of my imagination. In some cultures it is stated that our existance is the dream of a butterfly.

The point is that without free will, without a random component to the universe, then we are fated to our actions. We have no ability to think or say or do anything which was not already set in motion from the beginning (whenever that was). It may be true that our universe is just a history archive running in a giant computer by our decendants. This is one of the areas where I rely on faith, I can't prove I'm not a simulation, but if I am it doesn't matter.

Free Will has implications for morality since if you believe that all is fated, you need not take responsibility for your actions since they would have happened anyway.
