Mr. tech2000,

Does you or anyone else know if the OEMs like Dell will have to wait til June 10
before loading on Office2k---they probably will have to but I am looking for
confirmation.

Sorry, I do not know this.

Thank You

JK

I've never seen a product released first as a bundled box. My guess is that the box-makers are required to wait until the official product release date. I looked at Dell, EggHead, and the Microsoft online store. Egghead sells Office 2000 now as a "special order", but I suspect the buyer would be told that it won't ship until June if she went through the whole process. Dell doesn't yet include it as a software choice in the bundles.

It will be interesting to see if the release process begins to change even for big products like Office. They already release web-based products like the browser and even FrontPage and Outlook updates within days after development is done instead of the months it takes with products like Office, and the OSes where they're still stuck with the old slow-down from the physical manufacture process. Internet-time doesn't apply to the stamping of hundreds of thousands of CDs.

I suppose there will always be a marketing reason to wait for a splashy rollout of the physical boxes, but as broadband connections become the something closer to the norm, folks might be willing to buy even a product like Office from the 'net and wait for the CD to come along later.

Tech,

Havenot come to visit this thread for a while. Still have some MSFT shares left, but I did buy a bunch of YHOO! last Friday. This thing will run to 238 in 2-3 days. Too much $$$ on the table for collection.

And patiently waiting for CSCO to run toward 120.

larry!

Hey T2, I moved 40% of my portfolio out of softy to QCOM this week, am up 5% on it already. I still have about a 16% Msft portfolio position.

I wanted less exposure to that flatulent, despotic, senile Judge in the DOJ case, and I needed some cash to buy the best baby Gorilla I will probably ever see.
